Hey, check it out! I’m artist of the day over at TBT*!

Like a one-man Flight of the Conchords, Ryan Wendell Bauer is part comic, part writer and part comedian.

Along with his “band,” the MIDI Sixteen (“a slightly humorous reference to his keyboards and drum machines,” he writes on his Web site), he performs crazily intriguing electro-pop with touches of disco, hip-hop and comedy (all included in his most recent album, 2008′s Happy Friday). Onstage, he performs outlandish dance moves with a modest, unassuming charm and childlike goofiness.

All that will be on display this New Year’s Eve, when Bauer and DJ Cen-Flo take the stage to cover the Sugarhill Gang during WMNF’s Tribute to 1979 concert at Skipper’s Smokehouse. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. Click here for details.

In 2010, Bauer says he’s resolving to “kick things into high gear” by working on his next studio album. In the meantime, click here to read Julie Garisto’s interview with Bauer from 2008.

Huge shout outs to Alison Egan-Lodjic of Creative Loafing for the killer review of my show on Saturday night!

After dedicating the set to Michael Jackson, Bauer (pictured left) started a keyboard/synth beat as background to a conversational intro with him making puppet-like hand gestures and mixing a kind of rap/poetry-slam/haiku singing style that I had never seen or heard. I heard a girl proclaim “I love this guy! I just wanna hug him!”; my thoughts exactly.

Ladies? Let the hugging commence.

For the second time, Mohawk Bomb Records (link goes to previous coverage) has featured one of the tracks off my forthcoming album.

The song is called “Life Injection” and here’s what they had to say:

This is the second song from RWB & the MIDI16′s upcoming album “Happy Friday” that we have showcased. This slow jam about saying goodbye to your vices for an addicting lady. I can already hear the South Tampa clubs pumping this ditty. Brilliant wordsmithing and gratuitous use of autotune. For fans of Flight of the Conchords and Prince. Enjoy!

Right on, guys! Thanks a lot! As always, you can sign up for their Mohawk Bomb Record’s awesome “Free Song of the Day” email by visiting their site.

Check it out homies!

My song “Happy Friday” was featured today on the Mohawk Bomb Records free song of the day email!

From the blast:

Ryan Wendell Bauer and the MIDI Sixteen’s “Happy Friday” is a light-hearted danceable ode to office pleasantries. Makes me thinks about The Talking Heads and Flight of the Choncords while making a cameo in an episode of The Office playing Nintendo. This is dedicated to anyone listening from a cubicle. Enjoy!

Mohawk Bomb Records crashed onto the scene earlier this year with the fantastic “No Lip Vol. 1” compilation which features fantastic Florida bands like Drew Street Mary, Knowing Stu, and other SMAsh Radio favorites. Get it here.

Want proof that MBR is a different kind of label? Here’s their mission statement in the immortal words of Soulfound’s Ivan Pena:

Enjoy. Share. That’s our motto. Mohawk Bomb Records is a new kind of label, focused on sharing new music with the World. Finding new ways to make our artists known. Adopting technology to provide better distribution. We are still a young label, but we hope to bring new music to music lovers all over the World. Spread the word, spread the love.

You can read more about MBR and sign up for their awesome song of the day email blast by visiting mohawkbomb.com.
